Aufgang zum Fuerstenportraet: Herzog Friedrich der II. von Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg (1676-1732)
residence castle from Altenburg integrated to the important baroque castle constructions in Middle Germany. The appearance is from the alterations and construction phase in 1706 to 1744. It endures to today. The background of the exhibition is profound to look in building history because the baroque ingredients are from already existing buildings.
The exhibition invited the visitors to go on an expedition. They can find figurative details which were changed or which weren’t implement.
Mourning and ego together: A glorious invested painting composition shows the funeral cortege for the prince Christian who died in 1663 when he was 3 years old. It is a large-sized painting. The painting is of great value related to customs of burial (Sepulkralkultur). In the backdrop of the painting you can see the most famous castle outlook from the 17th century.

The castle model from 1868 maintains to the finding that the arrangement almost is a ring.
